Hackham West School is the home of a community of learners with small and supportive classrooms; we provide a unique and individualised learning approach for all our students.

Hackham West is a school with a strong sense of community and solid connections to our local Aboriginal culture. Kaurna language is incorporated in daily learning and used across our school for the naming of class groups and learning spaces. With the support of our full-time Aboriginal Community Education Officer, Aboriginal mentors and Student Support Officers provide a welcoming place for the community to feel a sense of connection and belonging.

We currently have six classes and allow all students to access intensive support for their learning needs. The South Australian Department for Education supports all current programs utilised at Hackham West as research-based and evidence proven to be effective for all learners. Such as Explicit Direct Instruction, InitiaLit, Quick-Smart, Interoception and the Big Ideas in Number. These programs are implemented across the school to ensure all students learning is targeted to their individual needs.

We also have many outdoor learning areas which the children can access throughout the day to learn life skills and enjoy being outdoors. There are large gardens and a fruit tree orchard, and a nature play area.

All students and parents are welcomed at Hackham West and quickly become part of our community. We welcome parent involvement through assemblies, volunteering, parent groups, community events and open days. We also encourage students to share their learning at home through various media forms and take home packs.

Hackham West is a hidden treasure, and there is more than you expect when you come through the door.
